POOH
BRIDGE WALK With Spring arriving and the sun finally beginning
to appear on a more regular basis, what better way to make the most of the
fair weather than a walk through the Hundred Acre Wood to Pooh Bridge for a
game of Poohsticks?
As it turned out, Ashdown Forest’s idea of a balmy
Sunday morning was more of a blustery day than much else, with what might be
called ‘quite a nip’ in the air. So the weather was hardly ‘fair’ as around
40 of us unloaded our cars and donned our stoutest walking shoes, jumpers and
jackets. Undaunted, trusting that the forecast for sunshine would eventually
bear out, we left the car park behind us and set off through the beautiful
forest scenery. A good walk always keeps you warm after all, and the forest
would provide us with some shelter from the breeze. By
the time we reached the bridge itself, the sun was making a gallant effort to
shine through the trees and everyone enjoyed a long game of Poohsticks, and
listened to the story of how Pooh invented the game in the first place.
Aside
from one or two near-misses with wellies getting stuck in the muddy puddles,
the long walk back up the hill didn’t really trouble the children, but one or
two of the adults looked rather puffed-out! The sun was shining gloriously by
the time we got back to the car park, so some made the most of it and
picnicked under the shade of the trees before setting off for home. Another
Grand Day Out, enjoyed by everyone who came along! |
